Does TMUA practice count as TARA Problem Solving practice?
Not really. The TARA specification keeps Problem Solving to everyday maths (fractions, percentages, averages, measures, area and reading tables and graphs) and tests how you select information and find a method. TMUA tests school maths such as algebra, functions and calculus, plus mathematical logic. The plan gives each its own sessions.
How is the time split?
By your choice of which test needs more time, then by the calendar: in the last week before a test, most sessions go to that test, and after it only the other test is left. Each test gets one full timed rehearsal a few days before, and the day before each test is a light review. These are our planning rules, not UAT-UK advice.
Can I sit TARA and TMUA in different sittings?
UAT-UK says most Oxford and Cambridge applicants must sit in October, and that you can sit each test only once in an admissions cycle. Applicants to other universities can choose October or January. Check each course page before you book.
What are the formats?
TARA: Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, 22 questions in 40 minutes each, then a 40-minute Writing Task. TMUA: Paper 1 and Paper 2, 20 questions in 75 minutes each. No calculator in either test.
