How to choose
- Sit an official practice test first, in the real software.
- The Writing Task is a third of the test. Check how each course gives feedback.
- Ask whether mocks are original or past TSA papers: both help, differently.
Questions
What is the best way to prepare for the TARA?
Learn the Critical Thinking and Problem Solving question types, practise them timed, and write a Writing Task answer every week. Finish with the two official practice tests.
What is the cheapest TARA prep?
The official UAT-UK materials are free. Of the paid options here, GhostPrep is cheapest for a few weeks and TaraPrep for a long stretch.
Are old TSA papers useful for the TARA?
Yes for Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, which are close to TSA Section 1. The Writing Task is new, so practise it separately.
When are the TARA sittings?
12 to 16 October 2026 and 4 to 8 January 2027. Most Oxford applicants must sit in October.
