TARA tutor or course: what helps with reasoning?
TARA tests reasoning, not knowledge, so it improves with timed questions and explanations that show the reasoning step you missed. A tutor helps most with the Writing Task, if you want a person to read your argument. Sitting in January? It runs from 4 to 8 January 2027, and only some courses accept it.

One sitting per cycle: January is not a retake.
UCL courses that use TARA
Computer Science and the other UCL TARA courses accept either sitting. January booking runs from 26 October to 21 December 2026.
Oxford PPE with Foundation Year
Either sitting. Standard Oxford TARA courses are October only.

Questions people ask
Do you need a TARA tutor?
No. TARA tests reasoning, which improves with timed questions and clear explanations. A tutor helps some students with the Writing Task.
Can I sit TARA in January?
Only for some courses: UCL's TARA courses and Oxford PPE with Foundation Year accept January. Standard Oxford courses are October only, and you sit once per cycle.
When does January TARA booking close?
21 December 2026 at 6pm. Access arrangement requests close on 7 December.
